This year more than ever we are all craving comfort and joy…and more comfort. We’ve spent more time in our homes this year then any before. 2020 has left us all wanting an extra hug; physically, virtually, and in any other way we can get it. If that means a new mug to wrap our hands around or a super soft new scarf to wear in our home office for the next zoom call.
As I started looking at gift buying, I was immediately drawn to items that I felt would make the recipients feel comforted this year. While holding onto a hot cup of my favorite black coffee wrapped in my favorite throw blanket, I searched for what I thought would not only bring some comfort to you and yours but also checked all the boxes for me as a designer – form, function and beauty.
If we are going to be honest with each other, let’s face it, we’ve all lingered a little longer in bed this year. Whether it was sleeping, napping, reading stories to our littles, binge watching our new fav on Netflix or ummmm maybe a Zoom meeting or two. My top pic for bedding are these sheets by Sijo. Their 100% Eucalyptus Lyosell Tencel sheet sets are amazing. Sustainably made, self cooling, super soft…better then silk – under $100 for a queen set too!
Also…they have pajamas as well. And well, come on, who doesn’t love pajamas? These Eucalyptus joggers are awesome for sleeping or lounging…or a quick run to grab another bottle of bubbly as you ring out the last moments of 2020!
While we’re talking about comfort and joy….what’s more comforting then homemade bread? I saw all you sourdough bread baking peeps. Nothing like a global shut down to force us all to think we could Little House on the Prairie it again, or at least give it a whirl. Sourdough starter didn’t make it? No problem! You can still use these proofing baskets for other breads and fill your friends’ homes with the amazing aroma that comes from baking a loaf of homemade bread. Bonus, under $30.
One of the best ways to boost mood is with living things…no not puppy, although how fun would that be? Super fun! Typically not a great idea to give a living thing…except if it’s a plant…then yes, give away. The Sill ships all over the US and has the sweetest plants that you typically don’t find on other sites. Want to spread holiday cheer that will last well past the holidays, this is it! Bonus! Plants not only help boost our mood but also our health! Win-win gift giving. Plus look at the sweetest pines that not only good adorable for Christmas but will last all year – wait for it – only need to be watered every 1-2 weeks, so the chances of it surviving to see another holiday season is great!
And I don’t think any gift guide is ever complete without a good ‘ole candle on it – so how about a non-toxic candle made of 100% pure soy (most soy candles aren’t 100% and still contain other waxes) that gets its scent from phthalate-free fragrances & essential oils, poured in the Hudson Valley. These 8oz candles are the perfect gifting size and come in luscious scents like Cedarwood Vanilla, Fraser Fir, Fireside & Wassil, for under $20! Available along with other sweet locally made beeswax candles at FD Market.
However you find comfort & joy this season, I hope you wrap yourself and the ones you love in it, whether physically or virtually. It’s been a year, a long hard, weird year that has taken it’s toll on everyone in different ways. Thank you for being part of our tribe here, we appreciate you and love sharing our journey with you, and making simple things like this in hopes to bring some comfort and joy to you as well.
