Fall Decorating Inspiration

It’s that time of year again. Kids are back in school, the sun is setting earlier, and the weather is beginning to cool off. Before you begin your fall decorating, allow these suggestions to help guide you as you transition your home into this new season.

  1. Create an inspiration board on Pinterest
Get all those screenshots out of your camera roll and into one place. Consider pinning some photos of autumn scenery that catches your eye to add to your inspiration. Take note of any themes or trends that are repeated in the images you pinned, such as a specific color palette or design style.
  2. Take inventory of your existing decor
Before you head to Target on a fall shopping spree, take inventory of your existing fall decor items. You might be surprised at what you already have. Be sure to take note of any items that may need to be replaced or updated and add them to your shopping list. Don’t forget to look out your window as well…even if you live on the smallest lot in the smallest neighborhood, you can always find things that are free outside. One of my favorite things is filling a tall glass vase with branches that have fallen into the yard, or collecting small pinecones on walks through the neighborhood that have fallen. Think outside the box – even turning the creamer from that wedding set you never use into a tiny vase on your bathroom counter with a few small twigs can be a cute way to bring fall decor into your bath.
  3. Less is more
A lot of fall inspiration images are overflowing with pumpkins and mums, but sometimes less is more. Home blogger, Myquillyn Smith (also known as The Nester), talks about the concept of focusing on one statement pumpkin per room rather than filling your space with multiple small pumpkins. This tip can be applied to any element of seasonal decor.

Also, fall decor is more than just pumpkins and mums. It’s about adding in layers of texture and coziness. Consider changing out your throw pillows and blankets to up the fall vibes in your home. Don’t forget about the power of smell – light a fall candle or diffuse fall scented essential oils.
  1. Consider hiring an interior designer
