There’s a funny story behind what the letters FD stand for. The letters originally stood for “fizl dizl” which, if you thought about Snoop Dogg when reading that, you are correct. It has been a running joke throughout the family forever. Bill bought the domain fizl dizl years ago in hopes that Snoop Dogg would purchase the website back for millions. Unfortunately, that never happened. Fizl Dizl eventually got shortened to the letters FD, and today several businesses operate under the FD brand umbrella, FD Design X Market.
FD Design company came first and FD Market followed, which is run by the mother/daughter duo. The businesses operate separately, but go hand in hand in terms of values, missions, and family of course. While FD Design focuses on wellness within interior spaces, FD Market focuses on wellness within the world.
Why FD Design Started
FD Design started because there was a void in the community for affordable design. Most of the time designers market as a high end luxury.
“I was seeing such growth in the area and local homeowners had a budget, but weren’t sure where to go…I wanted to create a one stop shop model that would give clients the opportunity to get that magical reveal moment they see on television.” – Jaime
Without hiring a designer, if homeowners want to create a new kitchen, they went to a kitchen and bath showroom or a contractor. Yet, neither stops provide the customer with a completed space including accessories and furnishings. From a contractor, all the customer gets is pricing, and most homeowners don’t have a solid budget number before going into a massive home project. Also, without working with a designer there is a lot of creative work, which involves going to multiple vendors, in the hopes of managing everything themselves to create a cohesive finished look.
At FD Design everything from the initial planning to the finishing touches are all done on our clients’ behalf, as well as narrowing down selections for them that will fit within their budget. Offering full construction services was an easy extension for FD Design, which gives complete control of the project and allowing the opportunity to have a cohesive design build process all in house. As things moved forward, FD Design expanded offerings to clients by being dealers for cabinetry lines, flooring, lighting and furniture. This is what sets FD Design apart. There is a void in the area as far as design showrooms go. Within the new office space (still in the works, but subscribe for updates) FD Design will design a space to give clients and beyond the opportunity to see these items in person allowing the vision to come to life.
Missions of the FD Brand
Some of the core values of FD Design are wellness and harmony. This means paying attention to details from wifi to VOCs to Circadian rhythm with lighting applications.
“I have a certification in wellness design that is called Wellness Within Your Walls. Within a home & business environment we look at things from. We also try to use as many sustainably sourced items in our designs as possible.” – Jaime
With wellness being at the core of what FD Design does, FD Market easily functions as a natural extension. Both businesses have a wellness for people and the planet model, and try to keep that at the forefront of operations. FD Market serves as a place for people to purchase all the products needed for a clean and green home. When the market first started over two years ago, the majority of the products were home goods and furnishings. The Market shifted towards more essential products including body care, dish soaps, natural cleaners, and laundry needs during the Pandemic.
FD Market’s main focus is the environment on broader terms. The store looks at ingredients, product life cycle, and processes involved in making the product, before deciding to carry a commodity within its walls. Both businesses accentuate each other’s. Being a mother/ daughter duo and both running their own businesses also has its advantages.
“I have loved the opportunity to work alongside Jacquelyn. To watch how the business morphed into what it is today because of her vision for it. While I am not involved in the day to day operations at the Market anymore, I am always happy to step in.” – Jaime
Both businesses’ missions are to create affordable, healthy environments for people to thrive in at home & work. The F and D do have a significance, just a funny one that links families and businesses.
